Primal Pictures

Primal Pictures was established in 2001 and has since produced numerous short films spanning from dramas and documentaries through to music promos and dance for camera. The company is currently developing a slate of feature films with the intention to take the first - a black british super hero film - into production late 2006.

As well as pursuing this production remit Primal has also diversified into areas of training and participatory filmmaking. They have been commissioned to develop film strategy around issues of diversity and inclusion on a local, regional and national level. Most recently they developed and piloted a model of participatory film making which would accompany commercial UK feature film production on a nation-wide basis.

Currently Primal are developing the East End Stories project, which is a co-production between Parallax Independent, Hi8us, The Rich Mix and APT Films. The project will marry five acclaimed international feature film directors to five marginalized groups of young people.

The company are interested in bringing those little heard voices and hidden stories to the mainstream of international cinema. They are keen to produce films that tell the stories of those on the ‘edges’ of society and to finding new and innovative ways to tell such stories. They regularly speak on issues of access, ethnicity and the film industry and have developed and taught on various initiatives, bridging the gap between the margins and the mainstream of the film industry.
